Titan to build India’s first large-scale 2MWp grid connected Solar Power Plant.

Titan Energy Systems Ltd., Hyderabad, India has been awarded the contract to supply, install and maintain a 2MWp grid-connected solar power plant by the West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation (WBGEDCL), a government of West Bengal company. The project, located at Jamuria near Asansol, in the state of West Bengal, is the first large-scale grid-connected solar power plant in India approved under the recently announced Ministry for Non-conventional and Renewable Energy (MNRE) feed-in tariff program for Solar electricity. Titan will supply the solar power plant with highperformance crystalline solar modules manufactured at its facilities in Hyderabad, India. To ensure state-of-the-art design, installation and operation of the solar power plant, Titan is partnering with Beck Energy GmbH, a leading German company with significant experience in planning and building of turnkey ground based solar power plants.

“After extensive techno-commercial due-diligence, the state is pleased to award the contract for 2 MWp solar grid-connected project to Titan Energy Systems Ltd., a Hyderabad based company” stated Shri. Dr. Mrinal Banerjee, Minister-in-Charge for Power, West Bengal. Shri. Gon Chaudhuri, Managing Director, WBGEDCL said “This is first MW level grid-connected solar power plant in the country and we are proud to have it in the state of West Bengal”

About West Bengal Green Energy Corporation Ltd.:
West Bengal Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (WBGEDCL), a government of West Bengal company, is new company formed by the State of West Bengal to promote grid-connected solar PV power plants. The State of West Bengal is well ahead in deployment of solar photovoltaic in the country. The country’s total solar power installation is 2.5 MW. The state of West Bengal has already installed small solar PV plants with a total capacity of more than 1 MW. About 150000 solar power systems are functioning in the state out of 450000 in the whole country. The state has declared a policy for roof top solar PV and feed in tariff for the first time in the country. A solar housing complex has recently been completed. The state has also decided to install 20 MW solar PV power plants by the year 2009 and 50 MW by the year 2010.
